Domestic Electrician Course Overview
The ET4U Domestic Electrician training course (also known as the Domestic Installer course) has been designed to bring together all the key courses which will give you the knowledge and skills essential to becoming a Domestic Installer / Domestic Electrician. The qualifications and skills obtained during this course will allow you to join a Government approved Part P Competent Person Scheme. This allows you to carry out electrical installations in domestic properties and self certify that your own work meets the requirements set by Government legislation.
Our Domestic Electrician Training Course includes:
Key Stage Electrical Course - (Duration 5 Days) This course has been specifically designed for people with little or no experience who want to become Electrical Installers. It will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to reach the required level of competence in basic domestic electrical principles. The course provides you with essential training and knowledge prior to undertaking the Domestic Installers course.
City & Guilds 2393 - Level 3 Certificate in the Building Regulations for electrical installations in a dwelling (2393-10) (Known as - Part P Qualification) - (Duration 2 Days) Since the 1st January 2005, all domestic electrical installation work carried out must meet current Building Regulations. Anyone who carries out electrical work in houses or flats must be competent to do so and have a good working knowledge and understanding of Part P of the Building Regulations. Within the Building Regulations there are 14 technical parts of which Part P is applicable to Electrical Safety within Domestic Dwellings.
For example as a domestic electrician we need to know where to drill through a joist in the loft so as not to make the wood structurally any less safe. Also how deep you can chase out the wall to put cables into so you do not make the brickwork any less safe structurally. What electrical work can we do in bathrooms which are known as special locations due to the presence of water and steam?
In this Part P course we are teaching what you can and cannot do in a domestic dwelling as far as electrical installations and building regulations are concerned. You prove your knowledge and competency by completing and passing this City and Guilds 2393 course.
City & Guilds 2382 - 17th Edition Wiring Regulations 2008 - (Duration 3 Days) The objective of this course is to provide you with the information necessary to pass the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations 2008 City and Guilds 2382-12 exam as it is a required qualification to join any Government approved Part P Competent Installer scheme.
The 17th Edition Wiring Regulations 2008 is a large green book consisting of 494 pages full of rules and regulations which we must follow as Domestic Electricians. The content of the book does appear quite daunting when you initially look at it and it certainly will not make much sense either.
We could not possibly teach you the whole book in 3 days but we show you how to navigate your way around the book in preparation for City and Guilds 2382-12 exam on Day 3 of the course. We will also show you that for day to day common Domestic Electrical work questions you would generally refer to the On Site Guide which is far more user friendly and smaller in size so easier to store in your van or car.
City & Guilds 2392 - Level 2 Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification - (Duration 5 Days) The objective of this course is to show you once you have installed new or altered circuits how to correctly Test and Inspect those circuits to ensure they are safe and meet the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations 2008. This course will give you the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to be able to join a Government approved Part P competent scheme.
Once you have installed or altered a circuit you will be taught how to do a variety of dead tests using a 17th Edition Multifunction tester to prove that it is safe to turn the power on and there are no faults. Once you have turned the power on you will then be shown how to execute some live tests ensuring that both the dead and live tests meet the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations 2008. You will then be shown how to fill in all the associated paperwork (Schedule of Tests) with the values you have obtained during your dead and live tests which are required to be left with the customer and their consumer unit to comply with the rules of the Government approved Part P competent schemes.
