Who is this course for: This course is for new comers to the electrical industry or for those wishing to refresh their existing skills.
Course Information
This course has been specifically designed for people with little or no experience who want to become Electrical Installers. It will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to reach the required level of competence in basic domestic electrical principles. The course provides you with essential training and knowledge prior to undertaking the other courses required to becoming a Domestic Installer.
Course Content:
Learn to install all domestic circuits, including:
- Sockets
Learn how to, and install both radial and ring socket circuits
- Lights
Learn the different types of lighting and how to install them, including two and three way switching
- Cooker and Shower circuits
See how these large cabled circuits are put together and then try it yourself
- Garden Power and lighting
Electricity outdoors requires extra precautions, so learn how to follow the safe and correct steps to install sockets and lights outside, even learn how to install up lighters in decking
- Extractor fans
It is a requirement of the Building Regulations that you prevent the spread of steam around the home, so learn how to install these correctly as per the Regulations
- Additions and alterations to existing circuits
A common request from customers is to add electrical item to existing circuits. There are many safety issues to consider, we will show how and then guide you through the process
- Earthing and Bonding of the electrical system
Such an integral part of every electrical system, let us show you why and how to ensure it is earthed and bonded correctly
- Trunking and Conduit
This is a system that will protect your cables, see where it is required and how it is installed correctly
- Safe isolation procedures
In order to ensure you and everyone in the vicinity are safe during you electrical work, you must have knowledge and experience of how to correctly and safely isolate the electricity supply to your works
- Introduction to testing, inspecting and certification of circuits
Every piece of electrical work must be inspected and upon completion must be thoroughly tested and certificated before it can be commissioned. Let us show you how
- Introduction to Building and Wiring Regulations
Along your journey we will be introducing the Building and wiring Regulations to everything you are installing and therefore ensuring full compliance
- Introduction to circuit calculations
To be able to install electrical circuits you will need to understand some basic calculations, let us guide you through these tasks
- Correct use of tools and equipment
Throughout the week you will be using various tools, we will give you the confidence to use each tool correctly and safely, include all testing equipment.
