Who is this course for: This course is designed for electricians wishing to extend their knowledge and qualifications to include Level 3 Initial Verification and periodic Inspection.
Course Information
Inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations (2391-10) The city & guilds 2391 is a progression course and participants will already have a good working knowledge of the BS7671 and experience of the electrical installation industry including three phase electrical installations.
The course will run for five days at our centre and will include theory (classroom) based learning as well as practical (workshop) based learning. After all tuition has been completed you will be required to return for a 2½ hr written exam, which is held in the evenings (this is the same for all centres) and a half day practical exam.
Course content
- Legislation
We will take you through all of the relevant legislation and laws that are vital to electrical installations including all the safety standards that are in place
- Earthing arrangements and requirements
An in depth knowledge of Earthing systems is essential, so will take you through step by step each of the earthing systems that are in use today. Also explain and demonstrate the importance of earthing and bonding, calculate cable sizes and demonstrate how to test that the earthing is adequate the installation
- Inspection of electrical installations
In this section we will explain the importance of inspecting electrical installations prior to and during any testing. You will carry out inspections yourself and be able to complete the relevant inspection certificates
- The testing of electrical installations
Now we will be ready to start testing. We will look at each test individually and take you through the theory behind each test and then practice them on simulated installations. We will even cover those rarely used tests. This section will also analyse the test results you have gained and discuss the values we would expect and compare these to given tables or prove via calculations
- The certification of electrical installations
The results of any inspection or test you must be able to complete all types of certificate. Together we will examine the different type of electrical certificates that are offered to us by the BS7671 wiring Regulation. Correctly fill these certificates in, and discuss the differences between an electrical installation certificate and a periodic inspection report. Another important aspect is that you have an understanding of the legal implications of signing any certificate
- Safe working practises
Working with electricity offers many safety issues. We will look at the dangers that are involved during inspection and testing is taking place not only to others but also to ourselves. Practise safe isolation procedures. Look at the benefits of risk assessments and the legislation behind good working practises
- Preparation for exams
The exam for this qualification is a hand written, paper, closed book exam which lasts for 2½hrs; there is also a half day practical exam. We shall look at some examples of past exams and the key knowledge that the examiner is looking for. We shall also take time to carry out practical test.
